One painting: Madonna with St.Giovannino by Domenico Ghirlandaio 15th century has been used to show the artist depicted a UFO in the sky. In this painting of the Madonna , a man is in the background pointing to a UFO. The "UFO" is a ship in the lake not a ship in the sky. The perspective in the painting is off, which happened in 15th century artwork. One's world view can also put perspective out of whack.

sm2226,
This is a good dialog. By they I assume you mean the so-called ETs. If you look beyond our limited, modern interpretation of UFOs you will find they have been here since mankind. IMHO I think the evidence shows these beings are the same ones referred to as "fallen angels" in the ancient texts, including the cannonical Bible and the very interesting Book of Enoch.

well that would certaintly explain why there is often a religious theme to the pictures. tho it is very funny that these heavenly shapes have come to be the standard shape that everyone knows as a UFO.

so when do you think they landed here first?
you dont think its possible that they were around at the times of the painters?

2225sm,
Thanks for your comments.
In regards to saucer shapes in art that appear to be UFOs, I refer to the experts- Art historians on European Christian art who agree that the oval and saucer shapes are deliberate symbols intended to represent the heavenly and divine. They are not representations of actual events or objects seen in the sky. This is why such symbols are not widely seen in Asian or other regional art.
Please read http://sprezzatura.it/Arte/Arte_UFO_eng.htm with an open mind, and make an attempt to distance yourself from your 21st century, cultural bias.

In regards to UFOs being negative, I think the mass evidence of the abduction phenomena, manipulation of people against their will, and the chronic evidence of outright lies and deception show a clear trend that these beings are not here for human good. I refer to the many secular, non-religious researchers such as Jacques Vallee, David Jacobs, and many others with much better credentials than mine who share this view.

the artwork shown at the top of the page is very explanable. i thought that the artist was trying to show some sort of gateway to heaven ready to accept someone. so yes, this is a weak exaple of the UFOs in art theory, but it is also one of many works. there are a few pictures painted around the 1500s that show absolutly blatant saucers.

there is no evidence to say that extra terrestrials are evil, nor ghosts. it is believed because these things are apparently seen, but they are not explained, so they become scary or "evil".

so if they are out there, they are, technology wise, a massive amount more advanced than we are. but we are gaining on them.thin about it, are they hurting us? or helping us?
